📚 📖 A little local historical project I got to do for Walkers Arcade in Coburg. I collected 10 images of Coburg and Sydney Rd between late 1800’s when Coburg became a town, and some images between 1900’s - 1930’s. Coburg is a suburb filled with history so I jumped at the chance to do this project for Walkers Arcade.
My Grandparents migrated to Coburg from Italy in the 1960’s and I grew up in Coburg. I have been working with the art curators at Divisions Gallery in Pentridge the last couple years so I’m very passionate about Coburg’s past.

Rest in peace Maroun aka The Sheriff
A beloved staple of Coburg and Brunswick, The Sheriff could be spotted drinking coffee at A1 Bakery, on the tram, the bus or at the Maccas on Sussex St. Sometimes he would be down at Barkly.
People like the Sheriff make our community unique and welcoming. We had many “chats” I say that because he had limited English and I have 0 Arabic, but that didn’t matter. Especially when we ran into each other at Maccas and I was wearing a pink cowboy hat.
If you’re on Facebook, you might have seen an update from his nephew who has been donating meals to the homeless of Coburg on his behalf. I encourage all my fellow Coburgians to do a good deed today in memory of the Sheriff.
